Andrew took me to a food tour today, its his “going away” gift to me. The tour guide company is actually one of his clients so he was also going so he could evaluate them. We had talked about going to it before they had signed up with his company and he surprised me Thursday , via text…which said “I have a surprise for you” and told me that we would be going to one of the tours. He came to pick me at 8:30 and our tour was at 9:30. Our tour guide’s name was Summer and 10 other individuals accompanied us on the tour. I had a brochure , that I was going to use to help me remember all the names of the places we stopped at but I gave mines away to an older couple that look interested in the tour, so they could possibly check it out too.
Our tour started at the Farmers Market on 3rd and Fairfax in Los Angeles. Its actually right behind The Grove , which is another popular spot. We first went to Bob’s Donut Shop and had coffee and these really good donut samples. Then we walked around the Farmers Market and checked out the different vendors. We got to sample some Caviar Cheese dip which was really good…its not made out of caviar thankfully…imagine how gross that would have been..but its named that because its like the Caviar of Cheeses…it was so yummy. We had the spread on some baguettes. The Caviar Cheese actually had an interesting story behind it. The original owner of the shop said that no matter what they had to keep selling that spread and so the new owners now have kept their word and still sell it. Years later then new owners found a box in the ground with the recipe in it written in the originals owner’s mother’s old Bulgarian writing. Truly mouth watering stuff, its my new alternative from hummus ( which I also love)
We tried other stuff while in the Farmers Market like : English Toffee and Some Brazilian steak, sausage, chicken wrapped in bacon and cheese bread. We stopped by another place called Lotaria , a Mexican restaurant owned by an Ivy League graduate who wanted to get his mom’s restaurant out in the open, so he gave up everything to work in the restaurant business. We tried some of their drinks out, I had the papaya flavor and Andrew got water melon, which he hated …haha. We also passed this store that had a variety of hot sauces. Some of the names of the hot sauces were really funny like : “Slap Your Mama”…and “The Hottest Fucking Hot Sauce”.
After walking around the Farmers Market we proceeded by walking down 3rd street. Which has a lot of cute restaurants and boutiques. We got to sample some Moroccan Mint Tea from this cute lil art studio/ tea house that was owned by a French couple. We went to another places called Joan’s on Third and met Joan herself! We sampled her famous Chinese Chicken Salad, which was delicious ! and we also went to The Little Next Door a French Deli and had Macrons and ate in their secret lil get away called The Little Door, which was so cute and romantic. Last we went to a Japaneses Restaurant and had some sushi and noodles. I was trying to teach Andrew how to use chop sticks….all in all I had a lot of fun. While touring me and Andrew had a few good laughs and I kept him updated on scores for the basketball game he was missing and how I was gullible enough to think that this man who was stretching was a statue…..and my thoughts on pitching a show called 90222 to the Screen Writers Gild Building which we passed, kudos if you know where the 90222 and get what its a spin off of…..haha.

Some people have problems with binge drinking and food binging. Both are terrible habits to have but as a swimmer I part take in neither. The only type of binging I do is MOVIE BINGING! also known as movie marathons. Like people who binge drink I usually movie binge when I’m feeling low and need to forget all my problems. Downsides to movie binges thought are fucked up sleeping schedules and sleeping habits. So next time you are feeling blue put down that shot glass or that pint of ice cream. Grab the remote and turn on the tube and lay back and relax.
